What is the tournament of Champions? The Tournament of Champions is a Red Carpet event that will end of the 2011 Season. It will feature the elite competitors that have won their weight division during the 2011 Season. With this being an invitational event this is a true National Championships, with the best competitors competing to be number 1. Unlike other events with an open registration that claim at to be a “Championship Event” but have not done any qualifying events leading up to the main event. This event is very special to win because not just any one can just register for the event you have to have won during 2011 and we are putting Champions against Champions so it only makes sense to call the event The Tournament of Champions.
What are the differences between the T.O.C event and a regular Grappling X Event? The T.O.C. is an invitational event that is open to past winners. This event is run with the highest amount of quality from every aspect and the competitors and selectors will really get their money’s worth.
What is the Walk of the Champions? The Walk of champions is part of the opening ceremonies before the finales start. All of the competitors that are competing for Places 1-4 will be a part of the walk. The walk is a parade type setting where the competitors will all be lined up by weights and division and as they are circling they gym we will be Spotlighting each one of the competitors and their School.
Why do we compete in the morning and then have to wait till the night for the Finals? The tournament will be ran pretty much like every other tournament where we run the brackets by a event schedule and each division will be start at different times. We will get down to the final 2 matches of each bracket and they will be saved for that night so the competitors can be spot lighted for their accomplishments. Rather than just running the brackets all the way out and just getting a champion where they really don’t get any recognition for their accomplishment. We wanted to set this event apart and spot light every winner.
How are the finals ran? After the walk of champions we will begin the 3 and 4th place matches. We will be running one mat for each one of the divisions. There are 10 weight classes per divisions and will be set up on a draw type system to figure out the order rather than just starting with the smallest weight classes and working to the largest. We will be running the running 3 mats for the Finals 1st and 2nd place Matches. One Mat for Novice, Beginner and Intermediate for the No-Gi finals and one mat for the White, Blue, and Purple belt divisions. Once we have completed those matches we will be running the Brown, Black and Advanced Finals and we will be running one mat for those matches. We will be shutting off all the lights and running the Brown, Black and Advanced Finals with the matches have a spotlight on them. The competitors will line up across from each other and be announced and will walk out and shake the hand of their competitor. How are the competitors ranked at the event? On the Night before the event there will be a Seating meeting where the coaches will all met together and discusses the place of their guy. The Competitors will be rank by their accomplishments/record during the 2011 Year. By ranking the competitors the goal is to get the top competitors in the finals, not just a random draw were the Number 1 and 2 compete could end up meeting in the first round.
What type of Prizes will be award at this event?Competitors that place 1-3 will receive 4 Inch Medals. Each division winner will receive a nice copy of their bracket. What do competitors have to do to qualify for the event? This is a true tournament of champions because it is a invitational event were the division wins from the 2011 season are invited to compete in the event.
